Congratulations, you have been offered a new job, but do […]
Whether you’re attempting to get your foot on the career ladder for the first time, have found yourself in a position where you are once again seeking work, or are simply looking to change career paths, you’re bound to need a little help along the way. At Renovo, we offer effective outplacement support and a wealth of online resources, including e-learning programmes that provide useful tools to help you build your CV, prepare for interviews, source unadvertised opportunities and search through thousands of suitable jobs. However, we know that some people need more than this. That’s why we also offer you a chance to benefit from a one-to-one relationship with a Personal Career Coach.
A Personal Career Coach will dedicate time to getting to know the individual they are supporting, and learn their specific needs so that they can better advise and coach them throughout their journey. Together with the online resources available you could benefit from access to help and advice.
It is helpful to prepare yourself before getting in touch with your Career Coach, so you are able to make the most of your time together. Consider the direction you would like to take, whether you would like to try something new or at least avoid a job similar to that which you may have been doing before. While your Career Coach can help you to answer some of these questions, it helps if you have contemplated some ideas beforehand.
Your Career Coach has your best interests at heart and will go out of their way to help you achieve your career goals. There’s no stigma attached in facing redundancy or being unemployed, so you shouldn’t feel as though you cannot be honest with them, if you are not, this will only slow down the process of finding a job. Let them know your concerns and challenges, and if there is anything you think you need to improve on, such as your interview skills, so that they can offer you the help and advice you need. If you have a particular career path or job in mind, let them know to make the best use of your time.
Your Career Coach can help you practice your interview skills, perfect your CV and help you to negotiate job offers, but you have to be willing to accept their help and learn what they have to teach you. They are only trying to help you to progress in your career, so take on board what they have to say and put their advice to good use.
Dedication is key to moving forward at a good pace, which is why your Career Coach ensures that they are dedicated to you and your job search. Make use of the resources available to you and set aside a certain amount of time each day to develop your opportunities. Keep in weekly contact with your Career Coach. The more time and effort you put into your job search, the more likely you are to find employment sooner rather than later.
