Laughter releases neurotransmitters called endorphins, morphine-like chemicals produced in the body that help diminish pain and generate positive feelings. Laughing makes you feel happier, reduces stress, helps you become more open and receptive, which in turn helps to boost the immune system and can help to combat depression.
So should laughter be something that is actively encouraged in the workplace? When people laugh at the same thing it can bring them closer together, individuals bond more effectively and are more productive in a positive working environment where relationships are fun and conducted in an appropriate manner. Laughter could be a described as a performance enhancing drug, people who enjoy their work succeed and that’s good for business.
If laughter brings out the best in people and unites them, let them laugh a little and they’ll do great things!
